Nonprofit Organizations to Discuss the Impact of the Recession

New York – In today's economy, nonprofit organizations across New York face considerable challenges in managing increased demand for services while balancing cutbacks in government and private funding. Throughout the months of May and June 2008, hundreds of New York-based nonprofit organizations will attend Citi's 14th Annual Nonprofit Days to discuss the impact of the economic downturn on the nonprofit sector. Citi and the Citi Foundation support Nonprofit Days which are free and open to nonprofit leaders throughout NYC and Long Island. This year, Nonprofit Days will be offered on May 1 (Citi Center, Manhattan), May 7 (Citi Center, Long Island City), May 14 (Brooklyn Borough Hall), and June 5, (Melville, Long Island).

Dr. James Parrott, Deputy Director and Chief Economist for the Fiscal Policy Institute will present the keynote addresses for the 2008 Nonprofit Day series. He will provide information on critical economic trends and their impact on the NYC nonprofit sector. Dr. Pearl Kamer of the Long Island Association will speak on this topic, in Long Island. Nonprofit Connection will present educational workshops designed to help nonprofit organizations develop proactive strategies to ensure sustainability in an economic downturn. Building on a tradition of public private partnership established with the 1995 launch of this annual series, Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer and Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrion will join us on May 1 in Manhattan; Queens Borough President Helen Marshall will join us on May 7 in Long Island City; and Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz will join us on May 14 in Brooklyn.

"To address the needs of our non profit partners during these rapidly changing economic times, Citi and the Citi Foundation are proud to support the 14th Annual Nonprofit Days in collaboration with Nonprofit Connection," said Eileen A. Auld, New York Community Relations State Director. "At Citi we continually seek ways to best serve our communities by working with organizations that take a leadership approach to finding solutions. We thank the Nonprofit Connection for sharing our commitment to help make communities better because we are there."

Launched in 1995, the Nonprofit Days series is a unique public private partnership, uniting Citi, the Citi Foundation, Nonprofit Connection and the Offices of the Borough Presidents to provide timely information and capacity building and management training to thousands of nonprofit organizations in New York City's five boroughs.
