Slovakia: Citi Celebrates Eight Years of Successful Partnership with Pontis Foundation in Promoting Corporate Social Responsibility

Bratislava – As announced today, Citi has been celebrating eight years of partnership with the Pontis Foundation in the Via Bona Award program. This award is praising best examples of cooperation between business and non-profit organizations and thus motivates other companies and business people to support public-benefit activities.

In April 2008 the Pontis Foundation presented the eighth Via Bona Slovakia Award for corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategy and philanthropic activities undertaken in 2007. The winners in six categories: Main Award for Large Corporations, Main Award for Small and Medium Enterprises, Award for Long-Term Partnership, Award for Support of Public-Benefit Activities in a Region, Award for Courage to Support Innovative Projects, and Honorable Mention for Media Contribution were announced at the Award Presentation Ceremony in April 23, 2008 in Bratislava.

Over the last eight years, the Via Bona Slovakia has become the most prestigious award for corporate philanthropy and responsibility in Slovakia and for several reasons it can itself serve as a true example of fruitful and respectable cooperation between business and a civil society in the areas of community development, education, protection of human rights, environment, health, social assistance, and protection of cultural heritage and traditions. During those years, not only has the number of received nominations significantly increased (from 38 and 32 in first two years to 91 and 106 in the last two years), but the scope of nominating subjects has widened as well. Besides non-profit organizations, quite a few nominations have lately been received from schools and other public institutions. To accommodate larger number of applications the number of evaluation committee members had to nearly double, and went up from 8 to 15. Among them there are now highly regarded representatives from business, NGOs, universities, ministries, cultural institutions and media.

"This partnership has enabled Citi to demonstrate our CSR commitment to the local communities in which we operate. By supporting this award, we have been able to raise the profile of best CSR practices across the country," confirms Branislav Cehlarik, Public Affairs Officer, Citi Slovakia.
