Citi Supports inJAz Bahrain, Sponsors "Banks in Action" Program
Manama Citi Foundation, a member of Citi, recently announced the sponsorship of "Banks in Action" program aimed at educating school students in Bahrain about the banking industry. An amount of USD 40,000 will be invested by Citi for the Banks in Action program, which will be conducted in association with inJAz Bahrain.
The Banks in Action program will reach out to more than 1,200 students of government and private schools in Bahrain during 2008. With the last year's sponsorship from Citi Foundation, inJAz Bahrain delivered the Banks in Action program to14 secondary schools covering 540 students.
Conducted by Citibank and other banks' volunteers, the program will cover key concepts of how banks work, understanding of banking products and services, plus creating awareness of potential career opportunities in banking.
Mayank Malik, General Manager for Citibank Bahrain, said, "Citi, through our various programs, aims to educate Bahrain's youth about the banking industry and the opportunities in this sector. Through the Banks in Action program, we hope to instill in the minds of our youth an interest in the banking industry."
Commenting on Citi Foundation's gesture, Shaikha Hessa bint Khalifa Al Khalifa, Executive Director of inJAz Bahrain, said, "I would like to thank Citi for sponsoring the Banks in Action program for the second time. I believe that it is vital to create an interest in students about the banking industry, as it will encourage them enter the banking sector. Citi Foundation sponsorship will indeed help inJAz Bahrain's education based programs."
Mrs. Deema Murad, Citi's Public Relations Head said, "Throughout the year Citi supports numerous educational programs in line with our policy of helping Bahraini youth. The future of our youth depends on the education we provide them. In 2008, we hope to sponsor more such education based programs."
