Citi Bulgaria Supports Microenterprise Development Program for Women

Citibank N.A. Sofia Branch and Integra BDS Association Join Forces to Support Women Entrepreneurs

Sofia – More than 150 women will benefit from the Microenterprise Development program for Women (MED program for women) organized by Integra Association and funded by Citi Bulgaria, through the Citi Foundation. The $13,000 grant will finance eight training seminars and fund two small loans to excelling participants.

The current project is a follow-up to the training program started by Citi and Integra in 2003 that provided basic business skills training and microfinance to women at risk. This program will provide the women with further opportunity to build on their skills by focusing on their development according to their specific needs. The seminars will include management of personal and company finances, legal and HR counseling, banking services information, and other practical workshops. The curriculum is aligned with the new requirements following Bulgaria's accession to the EU.

Peter Tashev, Executive Director of Integra said, "We want to lend a helping hand to enterprising and capable women, who have a right to a different future. The program also supports the women through the ongoing women business club that has turned into a small community fellowship for them."

The official launch of the MED program for women starts with a lecture on Simple Accounting and Financial Management of the growing company and will be attended by Stefan Ivanov, Citi Country Officer for Bulgaria. Stefan Ivanov commented, "We are very proud to be associated with the MED program for women. The program marks the second stage in our joint efforts with Integra in Bulgaria to help women acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to launch new entrepreneurial ventures or grow their existing businesses successfully."
