Record Number of Submissions Received for Citi Success Fund 2007

Jakarta – Citi Success funding grants were presented to 94 high school teachers today.

Teachers from schools in greater Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Surabaya, Medan and Denpasar will use the Rp 5 million grant to implement their creative learning ideas submitted for the Citi Success Fund (CSF) 2007 competition.

Organized by Citi Indonesia in collaboration with Yayasan HOPE Indonesia, CSF promotes creative teaching and learning across Indonesia. CSF was launched in 2003.

"A notable feature of this year's program was the inclusion of teachers from Medan and Denpasar for the first time," said Mr. Charles Ham, Country Director, Yayasan HOPE Indonesia.

"Thanks to their participation, 1,003 creative project proposals were submitted this year, which was an increase of 50% from last year."

He added, "And if you exclude the entries from these two cities, we received 328 more submissions than last year. This shows that teachers are striving to improve the quality of their proposals and to bring more creativity into the classroom."

The 94 successful teachers have until the end of March 2008 to implement their programs. A CSF panel of judges will monitor the projects and announce the top 10 programs in July 2008. The top 10 winners will receive an additional grant of Rp 5 million, while a Rp 10 million grant will be presented to their school.

Education expert and CSF judge, Ms. Henny Supolo said a wide range of topics were covered in this year's entries with chemistry, science, mathematics physics related ideas being particularly popular. She said there were also ideas tackling social issues such as bullying.

"Citi is very proud to see the impact being made by CSF, especially the development and implementation of new ideas and creative teaching programs," said Mr. Peter B. Eliot, Citi Country Officer for Indonesia.

Citi Indonesia volunteers also play an active role and more than 800 Citi Peka volunteers have participated in the program since 2003. To date, CSF has reached out to over 18,000 students and 1,200 teachers.

CSF is a long-term Citi Peka program. Citi Peka and CSF is funded by the Citi Foundation.

In 2007, CSF was recognized and honored with an award for Best PR Program by MIX marketing magazine.
