Citi Indonesia Success Fund 2007: Creative Teaching Support Extended to Medan & Denpasar

Jakarta – To celebrate its fifth year of activity, the 2007 Citi Success Fund (CSF) has been extended to promote creative teaching in Medan and Denpasar. High school teachers in the two regions will be invited to participate in this year's CSF, along with teachers from Bandung, Semarang and Surabaya and the greater Jakarta area.

"Through the provision of funding grants from the Citi Foundation to support creative learning projects, CSF has made a positive difference and Citi Indonesia is proud to continue to run the program with our partner, Hope worldwide Indonesia," said Mr. Peter B. Eliot, Citi Country Office for Indonesia.

"Over the five years, CSF has helped make many positive changes. And with the participation of teachers from Medan and Denpasar this year, we hope that they will also take advantage of CSF to develop and introduce new teaching programs."

An independent survey conducted by Hope worldwide Indonesia in early 2006 revealed that 96% of the 298 teachers in greater Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, and Surabaya who participated in CSF said they had been able to improve their creativity as teachers.

Country Director of Hope worldwide Indonesia, Mr. Charles Ham said previous CSF programs were well received and over 2,300 proposals had been submitted and more than 390 teachers had participated in the program.

"With the inclusion of Medan and Denpasar, we hope to receive 1,000 proposals from all areas," said Mr. Ham.

In 2007, teachers can base their projects around a number of new themes including:
  1. Activities aimed to promote community relations

  2. Activities to help students better understand classroom curriculum
The deadline for proposal submissions is October 28, 2007 and the selection process will take place in November. The funding grant winners will be announced on November 15, 2007.

CSF will provide cash grants of Rp 5 million to support 100 of the best ideas submitted by teachers.

Following the project implementation period, a top-ten best list will be selected with each winning teacher receiving a Rp 5 million grant. An additional Rp10 million will be given to each school.

Citi Peka has allocated Rp1.8 billion (USD 198,636) to support this year's CSF program. Citi Peka has made an overall contribution of Rp7.9 billion (USD 917,647) for CSF from 2003 to 2007.

CSF also involves Citi employees as volunteers. Since 2003, more than 800 Citi Peka volunteers have participated in the program. To date, CSF has reached out to over 18,000 students and 1,200 teachers.

In 2007, CSF won the Best PR Program award conducted by MIX magazine (SWA Magazine group). It was also recognized as a winner in three categories: program, objective, and result.
